OUR MISSION
THE AMB TEAM
Dr. Yan Wang is the co-founder and CEO of AM Batteries and is the co-inventor of dry electrode technology. Wang is also the co-founder and chief scientist of Ascend Elements, Inc., the leading company in Li-ion battery recycling. As William Smith Foundation Dean’s Professor at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), Wang has been investigating dry electrode manufacturing since 2013. Wang is a well-known expert in the battery field. Wang received his Ph.D. in Materials Science at the University of Windsor, Canada.

Pan is also an Associate Professor at Texas A&M University. Pan is an expert in additive manufacturing and laser processing. He has been investigating solvent-free manufacturing of Li-ion batteries since he joined the Missouri University of Science and Technology as an assistant professor in 2013. He earned his MS in Manufacturing Engineering from Missouri S&T, then received his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley.

Dr. Jay Shi is the CTO of AM Batteries and has more than 30 years of experience in the rechargeable lithium battery and Li-ion battery industries. Shi brings a broad perspective and industry-leading expertise to his work and has helped develop and commercialize novel battery technologies. Shi received his Ph.D. in Electrochemistry at the University of St. Andrews.

Dr. Brandon Ludwig is the Director of Research and Development at AM Batteries and a co-inventor of dry powder-based additive manufacturing of batteries. During his Ph.D. studies, he worked with Dr. Heng Pan to understand the impact of powder mixing, deposition, and calendaring characteristics on the dry electrode manufacturing process. Following his Ph.D. studies, Dr. Ludwig moved to Boeing as the integration and certification engineer for the MQ-25 Li-ion battery program. Dr. Ludwig received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the Missouri University of Science & Technology.

Dr. Brandon Ludwig is the Director of Research and Development at AM Batteries and a co-inventor of dry powder-based additive manufacturing of batteries. During his Ph.D. studies, he worked with Dr. Heng Pan to understand the impact of powder mixing, deposition, and calendaring characteristics on the dry electrode manufacturing process. Peter DiMaggio is Am Batteries’ Senior Mechanical Engineer and has worked for a top-tier defense contractor where he specialized in mechanical design, assembly, and system integration. DiMaggio has experience developing mechanical products through all stages of the product life cycle, from conceptualization to design, prototyping, production, and installation.

Dr. Yangtao Liu is Am Batteries’ Senior Battery Engineer and has more than 5 years of experience in dry electrodes. His research fields include electrode design, battery manufacturing, materials development, especially silicon-based anode, and materials characterization. He has worked on several NSF, USABC, and industrial cooperation projects. Lui received his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

He has worked on several NSF, USABC, and industrial cooperation projects. Lui received his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

Dr. Yi Yang is Am Batteries’ Senior Development Engineer. Before joining us, Yang used to work with the nano-confinement of oxide solid-state electrolytes for lithium-ion batteries (LIB). Since joining, he has gained experience adjusting powder electrostatic deposition technique parameters and expertise in tuning precursor mixing processes. Yang will contribute his efforts to establishing LIB batch manufacturing procedures and further steps in developing all-solid-state LIB manufacturing methods. He received his Ph. D. from the CEMS department of the Stevens Institute of Technology in the crystal engineering field.

Theodore Riotto is one of AM Batteries' Development Engineers. He is a part-time Teacher Assistant at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he obtained his Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering Practice. Riotto’s past experiences include chemical research and mechanical design as an engineering consultant and Baja SAE racing team member. Through these experiences, he has gained a blended skill set between fundamental chemical engineering and practical implementation.

Adam Chen is our Junior Development Engineer who specializes in experiment designs. With over 6 years of academic chemical engineering background, he has been familiar with developing and designing chemical manufacturing processes. Chen enjoys bringing experimental results and tips to colleagues to discuss and get better experimental results. He graduated with a Master of Chemical Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, skilled in Process Design and Lab Experiments.
